Ontario Property Tax Credit

If you claim a portion of your rent or property tax as a business-use-of-home expense, is it necessary to deduct that amount from the total before claiming your rent and/or property taxes for the Ontario Property Tax Credit?

Yes. Per CRA, property tax or rent paid on part of a home you used for rental or business purposes is NOT rent or property tax paid for the Ontario Property Tax purpose.

Given Allowable Business Use of Home expense cannot be utilized in a given tax year, is the related allowable GST/HST still all reportable on the GST/HST filing?

GST ITC's on business use of home expenses in Alberta?

As a SP can I claim the ITC's on my business use of home expenses? Utilities such as gas and electricity, obviously I can claim a portion of these in relation to size of home office however, can I also claim ITC's on these bills on my company GST return??

I'm not sure for Alberta. I know in B.C. when we switched to HST (for that very brief period) if you were home based you were supposed to let the utility companies no so that you did not receive the provincial energy credit. You then had to submit a rebate application.
