GST/HST Split Filing

by Carmel
(Ontario)

I am an annual HST filer and have paid my PST up to June 30th 2010.

Do I have to file a separate GST up to June 30th then HST from July 1st to Dec 31st or can I file them both together for the entire year?

Hi Carmel,

You file it all on one return just like normal. Just be sure you review your May 1 to June 30 transactions to ensure you have followed the transitional rules and the new place of supply rules. It is expected that CRA may increase their audits and they will be sure to look closely at that two month period.

I would make sure you have attached to your summary report, your detailed report showing all the transactions and the rates of tax each transaction attracted. In QuickBooks, this detail is available in their normal GST/HST Reports. I'm not sure about Simply.
