Paying State of California Employment Development Department (EDD) for Payroll Tax Deposit (DE 88), does it go under Payroll Liabilities or Gross Wages?

Hi Mary,

I think if you read carefully you answered your own question ...

A payroll liability is an amount owed relating to payroll.

The State of California Payroll Tax Deposit suggests that you owe payroll related taxes.

You also say you are paying EDD.

Therefore, it would be a payroll liability.

I'm thinking your entry would be:

DR Payroll Liability
CR Cash in Bank

Gross Wages is the amount an employee earns before any payroll tax deductions have been taken.
