HST Meals

What is the formula for extracting the HST in Ontario for a receipt from a restaurant including the tip? Is it calculated on the total amount for the ITC?

Hi Tracy,

On the GST/HST page/navigation button, I have a box that explains how to calculate GST/HST included in a total.

When calculating GST/HST on meals, exclude the tip. It is exempt. Hope that helps.

Tips as Income

I just want to point out that if a business receives tips, GST/HST must be collected on the income.

The easiest way to do this is to impute it.
